Texans Mock Draft 1.0
Hello and welcome my fellow Houston Texans fans, these past few years have been quite the rollercoaster ride with the departure of many beloved Texans like DeAndre Hopkins and JJ Watt. The Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson is also very disgruntled with the franchise and has asked for a trade. New GM Nick Caserio has his work cut out for him this offseason. One of the main events of the offseason is the NFL draft and although the Texans don't have a 1st or a 2nd round pick due to the Laremy Tunsil trade there is still a lot of great gems in this draft class. Below I have put together a mock draft for each pick the Texans have.
Round 3 : Pick 67
Ifeatu Melifonwu
CB, Syracuse
The Texans have a huge need at corner as they were torched badly last year in the secondary. Add in Melifonwu who is a long, rangy, athletic, and physical corner that is a great fit for new defensive coordinator's Lovie Smith's Tampa 2 defense.
Round 4 : Pick 109
Patrick Jones II
EDGE, Pittsburgh
With the departure of JJ Watt the Texans are left with a huge hole to fill. Throw in Jones who is a great pass rusher and run defender and the Texans have a player who can help improve the pass rush.
Round 4 : Pick 122 (via Arizona)
Marvin Wilson
IDL, Florida State
The Texans defensive line was often overpowered last year and could not stop the run or push the pocket. Add Wilson to the mix and the Texans have themselves a great athletic and powerful defensive lineman.
Round 5 : Pick 147
Joshuah Bledsoe
S, Missouri
As stated before the Texans need to retool their secondary very badly. Add in Bledsoe to the mix and the Texans land themselves versatile player who can serve many roles for the Texans defense.
Round 6 : Pick 187
Jermar Jefferson
RB, Oregon State
Currently the Texans top 2 running back in David Johnson and Mark Ingram are over the age of 30. The Texans need to inject some youth into this position and would do well with adding Jefferson who is a great change of pace running back.
Round 6 : Pick 200
Drake Jackson
IOL, BYU
Even after all the resources the Texans have committed to the offensive line there has still been some struggles. With Jackson the Texans nab a good technical and savvy player who can provide great depth on the Texans offensive line
Round 6 : Pick 210
Cornell Powell
WR, Clemson
Although the Texans wide receivers were pretty good last year they really lacked a possesion receiver. Throw in Powell and the Texans get a receiver who has great route running and ball skills.
Round 7 : Pick 229
Jaelon Darden
WR, North Texas
Following this year a few of the Texans receivers will hit free agency so it is important to have depth at the position. In Darden the Texans get a dynamic and explosive football player who can also contribute in the return game.
